Notes
Ὁ πρεσβύτερος ἐκλεκτῇ κυρίᾳ, καὶ τοῖς τέκνοις αὐτῆς, οὓς ἐγὼ ἀγαπῶ ἐν ἀληθείᾳ, καὶ οὐκ ἐγὼ μόνος ἀλλὰ καὶ πάντες οἱ ἐγνωκότες τὴν ἀλήθειαν, The Elder to the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth— and not I alone, but all those having known the truth—Breakdown
διὰ τὴν ἀλήθειαν τὴν μένουσαν ἐν ἡμῖν, καὶ μεθʼ ἡμῶν ἔσται εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα· because of the truth that abides in us and will be with us forever;Breakdown
ἔσται μεθʼ ὑμῶν χάρις, ἔλεος, εἰρήνη παρὰ Θεοῦ πατρός, καὶ παρὰ Κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ πατρός, ἐν ἀληθείᾳ καὶ ἀγάπῃ.grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.Breakdown
Ἐχάρην λίαν ὅτι εὕρηκα ἐκ τῶν τέκνων σου περιπατοῦντας ἐν ἀληθείᾳ, καθὼς ἐντολὴν ἐλάβομεν παρὰ τοῦ πατρός.I exceedingly rejoiced that I found some of your children walking in truth just as we received a commandment from the Father.Breakdown
And now I ask you, lady, not as though I were writing a new commandment to you, but one we have had from the beginning, that we may love one another.Breakdown
And this is love, that we may walk according to his commandments.  This is the commandment, just as you heard from the beginning, that you may walk in it.Breakdown
For many deceivers have entered the world, those who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh.  This is the deceiver and the antichrist.Breakdown
Watch yourselves so that we may not lose out on that which we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward.Breakdown
Whoever transgresses and remains not in the teaching of Christ does not have God; he who remains in the teaching of Christ has both the Father and the Son. Breakdown
εἴ τις ἔρχεται πρὸς ὑμᾶς, καὶ ταύτην τὴν διδαχὴν οὐ φέρει, μὴ λαμβάνετε αὐτὸν εἰς οἰκίαν, καὶ χαίρειν αὐτῷ μὴ λέγετε·If anyone comes to you and he does not bring this teaching, do not receive him in your house and do not even say ‘Greetings!’ to him;Breakdown
ὁ γὰρ dZ αὐτῷ χαίρειν, κοινωνεῖ τοῖς ἔργοις αὐτοῦ τοῖς πονηροῖς.for the one who says “Greetings!” to him shares in his evil works.Breakdown
Though I have many things to write to you, I did not want to write with paper and ink, but I hope to come to you to speak face to face so that our joy may be full.Breakdown
ἀμήνThe children of your elect sister greet you. Amen.Breakdown
