Ephesians in Greek and English

This is my working English translation of Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians, prepared as the foundation for our upcoming Translate the Bible With Me (TBWM) study. Translation decisions follow the Translation Micro–Style Guide.

Beginning in February, Ephesians will be explored incrementally through detailed grammatical, syntactical, and translational analysis. Translation decisions reflected here should be understood as provisional and subject to refinement as the TBWM work proceeds.

You can find the translation formatted for continuous reading here: Ephesians – Translation.

See My Study Bible for complete Greek Breakdowns and Field Notes.

1:03Εὐλογητὸς ὁ Θεὸς καὶ πατὴρ τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, ὁ εὐλογήσας ἡμᾶς ἐν πάσῃ εὐλογίᾳ πνευματικῇ ἐν τοῖς ἐπουρανίοις ἐν Χριστῷ·Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has provided us with benefits in every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

1:06εἰς ἔπαινον δόξης τῆς χάριτος αὐτοῦ, ἐν ᾗ ἐχαρίτωσεν ἡμᾶς ἐν τῷ ἠγαπημένῳ·to the praise of His glorious grace with which He bestowed grace on us in the beloved;
1:07ἐν ᾧ ἔχομεν τὴν ἀπολύτρωσιν διὰ τοῦ αἵματος αὐτοῦ, τὴν ἄφεσιν τῶν παραπτωμάτων, κατὰ τὸν πλοῦτον τῆς χάριτος αὐτοῦ,in whom we have the redemption through His blood, the pardon of sin, according to the riches of His grace,
1:08ἧς ἐπερίσσευσεν εἰς ἡμᾶς ἐν πάσῃ σοφίᾳ καὶ φρονήσει,which He lavished on us in all wisdom and understanding,
1:09γνωρίσας ἡμῖν τὸ μυστήριον τοῦ θελήματος αὐτοῦ, κατὰ τὴν εὐδοκίαν αὐτοῦ, ἣν προέθετο ἐν αὐτῷhaving made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure, which he had intended in Him
1:10εἰς οἰκονομίαν τοῦ πληρώματος τῶν καιρῶν, ἀνακεφαλαιώσασθαι τὰ πάντα ἐν τῷ Χριστῷ, τὰ τε ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς καὶ τὰ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς·in the administration of the fullness of the times, to unite all things in Christ—both things in the heavens and on the earth—in Him.
1:11ἐν αὐτῷ, ἐν ᾧ καὶ ἐκληρώθημεν, προορισθέντες κατὰ πρόθεσιν τοῦ τὰ πάντα ἐνεργοῦντος κατὰ τὴν βουλὴν τοῦ θελήματος αὐτοῦ,In Him we have also obtained an inheritance having been foreordained according to the plan of Him who brings all things into effect according to the counsel of His will,
1:12εἰς τὸ εἶναι ἡμᾶς εἰς ἔπαινον τῆς δόξης αὐτοῦ, τοὺς προηλπικότας ἐν τῷ Χριστῷ·so that we, who first hoped in Christ, might be for the praise of His glory;
1:13ἐν ᾧ καὶ ὑμεῖς, ἀκούσαντες τὸν λόγον τῆς ἀληθείας, τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τῆς σωτηρίας ὑμῶν,— ἐν ᾧ καὶ πιστεύσαντες ἐσφραγίσθητε τῷ πνεύματι τῆς ἐπαγγελίας τῷ Ἁγίῳ, in whom you also, having heard the word of truth—the gospel of your salvation—also in whom, having believed, you were sealed by the promised Holy Spirit,
1:14ὅς ἐστιν ἀρραβὼν τῆς κληρονομίας ἡμῶν, εἰς ἀπολύτρωσιν τῆς περιποιήσεως, εἰς ἔπαινον τῆς δόξης αὐτοῦ. who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
1:15Διὰ τοῦτο κἀγώ ἀκούσας τὴν καθʼ ὑμᾶς πίστιν ἐν τῷ Κυρίῳ Ἰησοῦ καὶ τὴν ἀγάπην τὴν εἰς πάντας τοὺς ἁγίους,Because of this, I too, having heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and love for all the holy ones,
1:16οὐ παύομαι εὐχαριστῶν ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν, μνείαν ὑμῶν ποιούμενος ἐπὶ τῶν προσευχῶν μου·ceased not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers,
1:17ἵνα ὁ Θεὸς τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, ὁ πατὴρ τῆς δόξης, δώῃ ὑμῖν πνεῦμα σοφίας καὶ ἀποκαλύψεως, ἐν ἐπιγνώσει αὐτοῦ·that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him,
1:18πεφωτισμένους τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς τῆς διανοίας ὑμῶν, εἰς τὸ εἰδέναι, ὑμᾶς τίς ἐστιν ἡ ἐλπὶς τῆς κλήσεως αὐτοῦ, καὶ τίς ὁ πλοῦτος τῆς δόξης τῆς κληρονομίας αὐτοῦ ἐν τοῖς ἁγίοις,having the eyes of your heart enlightened so you may know what is the hope of His calling and what is the wealth of the glory of His inheritance in the holy ones,

Notes
2:1Καὶ ὑμᾶς ὄντας νεκροὺς τοῖς παραπτώμασι, καὶ ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις,And you were dead in trespasses and sins,
2:2ἐν αἷς ποτε περιεπατήσατε κατὰ τὸν αἰῶνα τοῦ κόσμου τούτου, κατὰ τὸν ἄρχοντα τῆς ἐξουσίας τοῦ ἀέρος, τοῦ πνεύματος τοῦ νῦν ἐνεργοῦντος ἐν τοῖς υἱοῖς τῆς ἀπειθείας·in which you formerly walked, according to the course of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, of the spirit now operating in the sons of disobedience,
2:3ἐν οἷς καὶ ἡμεῖς πάντες ἀνεστράφημέν ποτε ἐν ταῖς ἐπιθυμίαις τῆς σαρκὸς ἡμῶν, ποιοῦντες τὰ θελήματα τῆς σαρκὸς καὶ τῶν διανοιῶν, καὶ ἤμεν τέκνα φύσει ὀργῆς, ὡς καὶ οἱ λοιποί·—among whom we all once lived in the cravings of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the flesh and of the minds, and we were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest
2:4ὁ δὲ Θεὸς, πλούσιος ὢν ἐν ἐλέει, διὰ τὴν πολλὴν ἀγάπην αὐτοῦ ἣν ἠγάπησεν ἡμᾶς,But God, who is rich in mercy, through His plentiful love, with which He loved us,
2:5καὶ ὄντας ἡμᾶς νεκροὺς τοῖς παραπτώμασι συνεζωοποίησε τῷ Χριστῷ· [ χάριτί ἐστε σεσῳσμένοι],and we were dead in sins, He made us alive together in Christ (by grace you all have been saved)
2:6καὶ συνήγειρε, καὶ συνεκάθισεν ἐν τοῖς ἐπουρανίοις ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ·and raised us up together and made us sit down in the heavenly places with Christ Jesus,
2:7ἵνα ἐνδείξηται ἐν τοῖς αἰῶσι τοῖς ἐπερχομένοις τὸν ὑπερβάλλοντα πλοῦτον τῆς χάριτος αὐτοῦ ἐν χρηστότητι ἐφʼ ἡμᾶς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ·so that He might demonstrate in the coming ages the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus;
2:8τῇ γὰρ χάριτί ἐστε σεσωσμένοι διὰ τῆς πίστεως, καὶ τοῦτο οὐκ ἐξ ὑμῶν· Θεοῦ τὸ δῶρον·for by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves—the gift of God;
2:9οὐκ ἐξ ἔργων, ἵνα μή τις καυχήσηται.not from works, so that none may boast.
For we are His workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we should walk in them.
2:11Διὸ μνημονεύετε ὅτι ὑμεῖς ποτὲ τὰ ἔθνη ἐν σαρκί, οἱ λεγόμενοι ἀκροβυστία ὑπὸ τῆς λεγομένης περιτομῆς ἐν σαρκὶ χειροποιήτου, Therefore, remember that you formerly were Gentiles in the flesh, who were called the uncircumcision, by those who call themselves the circumcision—in flesh made by hands—
2:12ὅτι ἦτε ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ χωρὶς Χριστοῦ, ἀπηλλοτριωμένοι τῆς πολιτείας τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ, καὶ ξένοι τῶν διαθηκῶν, τῆς ἐπαγγελίας, ἐλπίδα μὴ ἔχοντες, καὶ ἄθεοι ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ.that you were, at that time, without Christ, having been alienated of the citizenship of Israel, and strangers of the covenants of the promise, without having hope and without God in the world.
But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far away, have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
2:14αὐτὸς γάρ ἐστιν ἡ εἰρήνη ἡμῶν, ὁ ποιήσας τὰ ἀμφότερα ἓν, καὶ τὸ μεσότοιχον τοῦ φραγμοῦ λύσας,For He Himself is our peace, He who made both one and destroyed the dividing wall of the partition,
2:15τὴν ἔχθραν ἐν τῇ σαρκὶ αὐτοῦ, τὸν νόμον τῶν ἐντολῶν ἐν δόγμασι, καταργήσας· ἵνα τοὺς δύο κτίσῃ ἐν ἑαυτῷ εἰς ἕνα καινὸν ἄνθρωπον, ποιῶν εἰρήνην,having abolished the enmity by His flesh, the law of the commandments contained in decrees, so that He might create in Himself of the two one new man, making peace,
2:16καὶ ἀποκαταλλάξῃ τοὺς ἀμφοτέρους ἐν ἑνὶ σώματι τῷ Θεῷ διὰ τοῦ σταυροῦ, ἀποκτείνας τὴν ἔχθραν ἐν αὐτῷ·and he might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross having killed the enmity in himself.
2:17καὶ ἐλθὼν εὐηγγελίσατο εἰρήνην ὑμῖν τοῖς μακρὰν, καὶ τοῖς ἐγγύς·And He having come, proclaimed peace to those who were far away and those who were near,
2:18ὅτι δῖ αὐτοῦ ἔχομεν τὴν προσαγωγὴν οἱ ἀμφότεροι ἐν ἑνὶ Πνεύματι πρὸς τὸν πατέρα.because through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
2:19ἄρα οὖν οὐκέτι ἐστὲ ξένοι καὶ πάροικοι, ἀλλὰ συμπολῖται τῶν ἁγίων καὶ οἰκεῖοι τοῦ Θεοῦ,Then, therefore, you are no longer aliens and strangers but fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God,
2:20ἐποικοδομηθέντες ἐπὶ τῷ θεμελίῳ τῶν ἀποστόλων καὶ προφητῶν, ὄντος ἀκρογωνιαίου αὐτοῦ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ,having been built upon the foundation of the apostles and the prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone,
2:21ἐν ᾧ πᾶσα ἡ οἰκοδομὴ συναρμολογουμένη αὔξει εἰς ναὸν ἅγιον ἐν Κυρίῳ,in whom the entire building fitly joined together grows into a holy temple in the Lord,
2:22ἐν ᾧ καὶ ὑμεῖς συνοικοδομεῖσθε εἰς κατοικητήριον τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐν Πνεύματι.also in whom you are being built up together into a dwelling place of God by the Spirit.

3:01Τούτου χάριν ἐγὼ Παῦλος ὁ δέσμιος τοῦ Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν τῶν ἐθνῶν, For this purpose I, Paul, am the prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles—
3:02εἴγε ἠκούσατε τὴν οἰκονομίαν τῆς χάριτος τοῦ Θεοῦ τῆς δοθείσης μοι εἰς ὑμᾶς, if indeed you heard the administration of God’s grace having been given to me for you,
3:03ὅτι κατὰ ἀποκάλυψιν ἐγνωρισέ μοι τὸ μυστήριον, καθὼς προέγραψα ἐν ὀλίγῳ, that by revelation He made known to me the mystery as I wrote beforehand in brief,
3:04πρὸς ὃ δύνασθε ἀναγινώσκοντες νοῆσαι τὴν σύνεσίν μου ἐν τῷ μυστηρίῳ τοῦ Χριστοῦ· whereby when reading you can understand my insight in the mystery of Christ,
3:05ὃ ἐν ἑτέραις γενεαῖς οὐκ ἐγνωρίσθη τοῖς υἱοῖς τῶν ἀνθρώπων, ὡς νῦν ἀπεκαλύφθη τοῖς ἁγίοις ἀποστόλοις αὐτοῦ καὶ προφήταις ἐν Πνεύματι· which, in other generations, was not revealed to the sons of man as it has now been revealed to His holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
3:06εἶναι τὰ ἔθνη συγκληρονόμα καὶ σύσσωμα καὶ συμμέτοχα τῆς ἐπαγγελίας αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ Χριστῷ, διὰ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου, that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers in His promise in Christ  through the gospel,
3:07οὗ ἐγενόμην διάκονος κατὰ τὴν δωρεὰν τῆς χάριτος τοῦ Θεοῦ τὴν δοθεῖσαν μοι κατὰ τὴν ἐνέργειαν τῆς δυνάμεως αὐτοῦ. of which I became a minister according to the gift of God’s grace that was given to me according to the working of His power.
3:08ἐμοὶ τῷ ἐλαχιστοτέρῳ πάντων τῶν ἁγίων ἐδόθη ἡ χάρις αὕτη, ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν εὐαγγελίσασθαι τὸν ἀνεξιχνίαστον πλοῦτον τοῦ Χριστοῦ, To me, the least of all the saints, was given this grace to proclaim among the Gentiles the incomprehensible riches of Christ,
3:09καὶ φωτίσαι πάντας τίς ἡ κοινωνία τοῦ μυστηρίου τοῦ ἀποκεκρυμμένου ἀπὸ τῶν αἰώνων ἐν τῷ Θεῷ τῷ τὰ πάντα κτίσαντι διὰ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ,and to illuminate for all men what is the fellowship of the mystery concealed from the ages in God who created all things through Jesus Christ,
3:10ἵνα γνωρισθῇ νῦν ταῖς ἀρχαῖς καὶ ταῖς ἐξουσίαις ἐν τοῖς ἐπουρανίοις διὰ τῆς ἐκκλησίας ἡ πολυποίκιλος σοφία τοῦ Θεοῦso that might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavens through the church the manifold wisdom of God
3:11κατὰ πρόθεσιν τῶν αἰώνων ἣν ἐποίησεν ἐν  Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ τῷ Κυρίῳ ἡμῶν· according to His eternal purpose that He carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord;
3:12ἐν ᾧ ἔχομεν τὴν παρρησίαν καὶ τὴν προσαγωγὴν ἐν πεποιθήσει, διὰ τῆς πίστεως αὐτοῦ. in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.
Therefore, I implore that you not be discouraged because of my afflictions on your behalf, which is your glory.
3:14Τούτου χάριν κάμπτω τὰ γόνατά μου πρὸς τὸν πατέρα τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, For this reason, I bend my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
3:15ἐξ οὗ πᾶσα πατριὰ ἐν οὐρανοῖς καὶ ἐπὶ γῆς ὀνομάζεται, from whom the whole family in heaven and on earth is named,
3:16ἵνα δῴη ὑμῖν, κατὰ τὸν πλοῦτον τῆς δόξης αὐτοῦ, δυνάμει κραταιωθῆναι διὰ τοῦ Πνεύματος αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸν ἔσω ἄνθρωπον, that He might give to you according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power by His Spirit in the inner man,
3:17κατοικῆσαι τὸν Χριστὸν διὰ τῆς πίστεως ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν· ἐν ἀγάπῃ ἐρριζωμένοι καὶ τεθεμελιωμένοιthat you may have Christ dwell in your hearts through faith, firmly rooted and grounded in love
3:18ἵνα ἐξισχύσητε καταλαβέσθαι σὺν πᾶσι τοῖς ἁγίοις, τί τὸ πλάτος καὶ μῆκος καὶ βάθος καὶ ὕψος,so that you may be strong enough to firmly grasp with all the holy ones, what is the breadth and length and depth and height,
3:19γνῶναί τε τὴν ὑπερβάλλουσαν τῆς γνώσεως ἀγάπην τοῦ Χριστοῦ, ἵνα πληρωθῆτε εἰς πᾶν τὸ πλήρωμα τοῦ Θεοῦ. and to know the knowledge-surpassing love of Christ, so you may be filled unto all the fullness of God.
3:20Τῷ δὲ δυναμένῳ ὑπὲρ πάντα ποιῆσαι ὑπὲρ ἐκ περισσοῦ ὧν αἰτούμεθα ἢ νοοῦμεν, κατὰ τὴν δύναμιν τὴν ἐνεργουμένην ἐν ἡμῖν, Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we ask or imagine according to the power that works in us,
ἀμήν.to Him be the glory in the church in Christ Jesus, to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

4:01Παρακαλῶ οὖν ὑμᾶς ἐγὼ, ὁ δέσμιος ἐν Κυρίῳ, ἀξίως περιπατῆσαι τῆς κλήσεως ἧς ἐκλήθητε, Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, exhort you to walk worthily of the calling to which you were called,
4:02μετὰ πάσης ταπεινοφροσύνης καὶ πρᾳότητος, μετὰ μακροθυμίας, ἀνεχόμενοι ἀλλήλων ἐν ἀγάπῃ, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,
4:03σπουδάζοντες τηρεῖν τὴν ἑνότητα τοῦ Πνεύματος ἐν τῷ συνδέσμῳ τῆς εἰρήνης. striving to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace,
4:04ἓν σῶμα καὶ ἓν Πνεῦμα, καθὼς καὶ ἐκλήθητε ἐν μιᾷ ἐλπίδι τῆς κλήσεως ὑμῶν· one body and one Spirit, just as you were also called in one hope of your calling;
4:05εἷς Κύριος, μία πίστις, ἓν βάπτισμα, one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
4:06 εἷς Θεὸς καὶ πατὴρ πάντων, ὁ ἐπὶ πάντων καὶ διὰ πάντων, καὶ ἐν πᾶσιν ὑμῖν.one God and Father of all, who is upon all and through all and in you all.
Now to each one of us was given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
Therefore, it says:Having ascended on high, he led captivity captive and he gave gifts to men.
4:09[τὸ δὲ, Ἀνέβη, τί ἐστιν εἰ μὴ ὅτι καὶ κατέβη πρῶτον εἰς τὰ κατώτερα μέρη τῆς γῆς; (Now concerning “He ascended” what does it mean except that He descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
He who descended is also He who ascended high above all the heavens so that he might fill all things.)
4:11καὶ αὐτὸς ἔδωκε τοὺς μὲν, ἀποστόλους, τοὺς δὲ, προφήτας, τοὺς δὲ, εὐαγγελιστάς, τοὺς δὲ, ποιμένας καὶ διδασκάλους, And He himself gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, some as pastors and teachers,
4:12πρὸς τὸν καταρτισμὸν τῶν ἁγίων, εἰς ἔργον διακονίας, εἰς οἰκοδομὴν τοῦ σώματος τοῦ Χριστοῦ· for equipping the saints for the work of service for the building up of the body of Christ,
4:13μέχρι καταντήσωμεν οἱ πάντες εἰς τὴν ἑνότητα τῆς πίστεως, καὶ τῆς ἐπιγνώσεως τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ Θεοῦ, εἰς ἄνδρα τέλειον, εἰς μέτρον ἡλικίας τοῦ πληρώματος τοῦ Χριστοῦ· until we may all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of Christ’s fullness;
4:14ἵνα μηκέτι ὦμεν νήπιοι, κλυδωνιζόμενοι καὶ περιφερόμενοι παντὶ ἀνέμῳ τῆς διδασκαλίας, ἐν τῇ κυβείᾳ τῶν ἀνθρώπων, ἐν πανουργίᾳ πρὸς τὴν μεθοδείαν τῆς πλάνης· so that we may no longer be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of teaching by the trickery of men, by the craftiness in deceitful scheming;
4:15ἀληθεύοντες δὲ ἐν ἀγάπῃ αὐξήσωμεν εἰς αὐτὸν τὰ πάντα, ὅς ἐστιν ἡ κεφαλή, ὁ Χριστός, rather, speaking the truth in love let us grow up in every way toward Him who is the head—Christ,
4:16ἐξ οὗ πᾶν τὸ σῶμα συναρμολογούμενον καὶ συμβιβαζόμενον διὰ πάσης ἁφῆς τῆς ἐπιχορηγίας, κατʼ ἐνέργειαν ἐν μέτρῳ ἑνὸς ἑκάστου μέρους, τὴν αὔξησιν τοῦ σώματος ποιεῖται εἰς οἰκοδομὴν ἑαυτοῦ ἐν ἀγάπῃ. from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together through every supporting joint, according to the functioning capacity, in its measure, of each part, causes its own growth for building itself up in love.
4:17Τοῦτο οὖν λέγω καὶ μαρτύρομαι ἐν Κυρίῳ, μηκέτι ὑμᾶς περιπατεῖν καθὼς καὶ τὰ λοιπὰ ἔθνη περιπατεῖ, ἐν ματαιότητι τοῦ νοὸς αὐτῶν, Therefore, I say this and solemnly attest in the Lord that you must no longer walk even as the other Gentiles walk in the futility of their minds,
4:18ἐσκοτισμένοι τῇ διανοίᾳ ὄντες ἀπηλλοτριωμένοι τῆς ζωῆς τοῦ Θεοῦ διὰ τὴν ἄγνοιαν τὴν οὖσαν ἐν αὐτοῖς, διὰ τὴν πώρωσιν τῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν· being darkened in understanding and alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance in them, because of the hardness of their hearts;
4:19οἵτινες ἀπηλγηκότες ἑαυτοὺς παρέδωκαν τῇ ἀσελγείᾳ, εἰς ἐργασίαν ἀκαθαρσίας πάσης ἐν πλεονεξίᾳ. which having become callous delivered themselves over to licentiousness in order to practice every kind of  uncleanness in greediness.
4:20ὑμεῖς δὲ οὐχ οὕτως ἐμάθετε τὸν Χριστόν, But you have not learned Christ thusly,
4:21εἴγε αὐτὸν ἠκούσατε, καὶ ἐν αὐτῷ ἐδιδάχθητε, καθώς ἐστιν ἀλήθεια ἐν τῷ Ἰησοῦ·if indeed you heard Him and were taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus,
4:22ἀποθέσθαι ὑμᾶς κατὰ τὴν προτέραν ἀναστροφὴν, τὸν παλαιὸν ἄνθρωπον, τὸν φθειρόμενον κατὰ τὰς ἐπιθυμίας τῆς ἀπάτης· lay aside, according to your former conduct, the old man, the one being corrupted according to the deceitful desires;
4:23ἀνανεοῦσθαι δὲ τῷ πνεύματι τοῦ νοὸς ὑμῶν, to be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
4:24καὶ ἐνδύσασθαι τὸν καινὸν ἄνθρωπον, τὸν κατὰ Θεὸν κτισθέντα ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ καὶ ὁσιότητι τῆς ἀληθείας. and put on the new man, according to God having been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
Therefore, lay aside the lie, every man speak truth with his neighbor as we are members of one another.
4:26ὀργίζεσθε καὶ μὴ ἁμαρτάνετε· ὁ ἥλιος μὴ ἐπιδυέτω ἐπὶ τῷ παροργισμῷ ὑμῶν· Be angry and sin not; let not the sun set on your anger;
4:27μήτε δίδοτε τόπον τῷ διαβόλῳ. and give no place to the devil.
Let the one who steals no longer steal, but rather let him labor, working what is good with his hands so that he may have to share with the one who has need.
Let no unwholesome word come from your mouth, but that which is useful for edification where it is necessary so that it may give grace to those who are hearing.
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
4:31πᾶσα πικρία καὶ θυμὸς καὶ ὀργὴ καὶ κραυγὴ καὶ βλασφημία ἀρθήτω ἀφʼ ὑμῶν, σὺν πάσῃ κακίᾳ· Let all bitterness and anger and wrath and clamor, and blasphemy, be removed from you together with all malice;
4:32 γίνεσθε δὲ εἰς ἀλλήλους χρηστοί, εὔσπλαγχνοι, χαριζόμενοι ἑαυτοῖς, καθὼς καὶ ὁ Θεὸς ἐν Χριστῷ ἐχαρίσατο ὑμῖν.and be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving each other even as God in Christ also forgave you.

VerseΠΑΥΛΟΥ ΤΟΥ ΑΠΟΣΤΟΛΟΥ Η ΠΡΟΣ ΕΦΕΣΙΟΥΣ ΕΠΙΣΤΟΛΗEpistle to the Ephesians
THV Translation
Notes
5:01Γίνεσθε οὖν μιμηταὶ τοῦ Θεοῦ, ὡς τέκνα ἀγαπητά· Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children;
5:02καὶ περιπατεῖτε ἐν ἀγάπῃ, καθὼς καὶ ὁ Χριστὸς ἠγάπησεν ἡμᾶς καὶ παρέδωκεν ἑαυτὸν ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν προσφορὰν καὶ θυσίαν τῷ Θεῷ εἰς ὀσμὴν εὐωδίας. and walk in love, just as Christ also loved us and delivered Himself for us an offering and sacrifice to God for a fragrant aroma.
5:03πορνεία δὲ καὶ πᾶσα ἀκαθαρσία ἢ πλεονεξία μηδὲ ὀνομαζέσθω ἐν ὑμῖν, καθὼς πρέπει ἁγίοις· But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness must not be named among you even as fitting the holy ones;
5:04καὶ αἰσχρότης, καὶ μωρολογία, ἢ εὐτραπελία, τὰ οὐκ ἀνήκοντα· ἀλλὰ μᾶλλον εὐχαριστία. nor let obscenity, foolish talk, or coarse jesting—which are not fitting— but rather thanksgiving.
For this you know that every fornicator or unclean or greedy man, who is an idolator, has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Let no one deceive you with empty words; for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
5:07μὴ οὖν γίνεσθε συμμέτοχοι αὐτῶν· Therefore do not become partakers with them;
5:08ἦτε γάρ ποτε σκότος, νῦν δὲ φῶς ἐν Κυρίῳ· ὡς τέκνα φωτὸς περιπατεῖτεfor you were formerly darkness, but now light in the Lord; walk as children of light
5:09(ὁ γὰρ καρπὸς τοῦ Πνεύματος ἐν πάσῃ ἀγαθωσύνῃ καὶ δικαιοσύνῃ καὶ ἀληθείᾳ), (for the fruit of the Spirit is all goodness and righteousness and truth),
5:10δοκιμάζοντες τί ἐστιν εὐάρεστον τῷ Κυρίῳ· discerning what is pleasing to the Lord;
5:11καὶ μὴ συγκοινωνεῖτε τοῖς ἔργοις τοῖς ἀκάρποις τοῦ σκότους, μᾶλλον δὲ καὶ ἐλέγχετε· and take no more part in the unfruitful works of darkness but rather expose them;
5:12τὰ γὰρ κρυφῇ γινόμενα ὑπʼ αὐτῶν αἰσχρόν ἐστι καὶ λέγειν.to even mention the things that are done by them in secret is shameful.
Now all things when they are reproved by the light are revealed; for everything revealed is light.
Therefore, it says:

Rise up O sleeper and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.
5:15Βλέπετε οὖν πῶς ἀκριβῶς περιπατεῖτε, μὴ ὡς ἄσοφοι, ἀλλʼ ὡς σοφοί, Therefore, see that you walk carefully, not as unwise, but as wise,
5:16ἐξαγοραζόμενοι τὸν καιρόν, ὅτι αἱ ἡμέραι πονηραί εἰσι. redeeming the time because the days are evil.
Therefore, do not be ignorant but comprehend what is the will of the Lord.
5:18καὶ μὴ μεθύσκεσθε οἴνῳ, ἐν ᾧ ἐστιν ἀσωτία, ἀλλὰ πληροῦσθε ἐν Πνεύματι, And be not drunk with wine, which is debauchery, but be filled by the Spirit,
5:19λαλοῦντες ἑαυτοῖς ψαλμοῖς καὶ ὕμνοις καὶ ᾠδαῖς πνευματικαῖς, ᾄδοντες καὶ ψάλλοντες ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ ὑμῶν τῷ Κυρίῳ, speaking to each other in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord,
5:20εὐχαριστοῦντες πάντοτε ὑπὲρ πάντων ἐν ὀνόματι τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τῷ Θεῷ καὶ πατρί, giving thanks at all times for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ unto God the Father,
5:21ὑποτασσόμενοι ἀλλήλοις ἐν φόβῳ Θεοῦ.submitting to one another in the fear of God.
5:22Αἱ γυναῖκες, τοῖς ἰδίοις ἀνδράσιν ὑποτάσσεσθε, ὡς τῷ Κυρίῳ, Women be subject to your own husbands as to the Lord,
5:23ὅτι ὁ ἀνήρ ἐστι κεφαλὴ τῆς γυναικὸς, ὡς καὶ ὁ Χριστὸς κεφαλὴ τῆς ἐκκλησίας, καὶ αὐτὸς ἐστι σωτὴρ τοῦ σώματος. for the husband is head of the wife just as Christ is head of the church and He is the savior of the body.
Now as the church is subject to Christ, thus the wife is to her own husband in all things.
5:25οἱ ἄνδρες, ἀγαπᾶτε τὰς γυναῖκας ἑαυτῶν, καθὼς καὶ ὁ Χριστὸς ἠγάπησε τὴν ἐκκλησίαν, καὶ ἑαυτὸν παρέδωκεν ὑπὲρ αὐτῆς· Husbands love your wives, even as Christ loved the church and delivered Himself for her;
5:26ἵνα αὐτὴν ἁγιάσῃ, καθαρίσας τῷ λουτρῷ τοῦ ὕδατος ἐν ῥήματι, so that He may consecrate her, having purified her by the washing with water by the word,
5:27 ἵνα παραστήσῃ αὐτὴν ἑαυτῷ ἔνδοξον τὴν ἐκκλησίαν, μὴ ἔχουσαν σπίλον, ἢ ῥυτίδα, ἤ τι τῶν τοιούτων, ἀλλʼ ἵνα ᾖ ἁγία καὶ ἄμωμος. so that He might present the church to Himself glorious, not having spot, or wrinkle, or anything of the sort, but that she may be holy and blameless.
ὁ ἀγαπῶν τὴν ἑαυτοῦ γυναῖκα, ἑαυτὸν ἀγαπᾷ· In this manner, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
οὐδεὶς γάρ ποτε τὴν ἑαυτοῦ σάρκα ἐμίσησεν, ἀλλʼ ἐκτρέφει καὶ θάλπει αὐτήν, καθὼς καὶ ὁ Κύριος τὴν ἐκκλησίαν· For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church;
5:30ὅτι μέλη ἐσμὲν τοῦ σώματος αὐτοῦ, ἐκ τῆς σαρκὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκ τῶν ὀστέων αὐτοῦ. because we are members of His body made from His flesh and made from His bone.
For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and the two shall become one flesh.
5:32τὸ μυστήριον τοῦτο μέγα ἐστίν· ἐγὼ δὲ λέγω εἰς Χριστὸν καὶ εἰς τὴν ἐκκλησίαν. this is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and concerning the church.
Nevertheless, let each one of you so love his wife as himself, and let the wife reverence her husband.

VerseΠΑΥΛΟΥ ΤΟΥ ΑΠΟΣΤΟΛΟΥ Η ΠΡΟΣ ΕΦΕΣΙΟΥΣ ΕΠΙΣΤΟΛΗEpistle to the Ephesians
THV Translation
Notes
Children obey your parents in the Lord for this is right.
6:02Τίμα τὸν πατέρα σου καὶ τὴν μητέρα ( ἥτις ἐστὶν ἐντολὴ πρώτη ἐν ἐπαγγελίᾳ), Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise),
6:03ἵνα εὖ σοι γένηται, καὶ ἔσῃ μακροχρόνιος ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς. that it may come to be well with you and you will be long-lived on the earth.
6:04καὶ οἱ πατέρες, μὴ παροργίζετε τὰ τέκνα ὑμῶν, ἀλλʼ ἐκτρέφετε αὐτὰ ἐν παιδείᾳ καὶ νουθεσίᾳ Κυρίου.and fathers do not provoke your children to anger, rather rear them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
6:05Οἱ δοῦλοι, ὑπακούετε τοῖς κυρίοις κατὰ σάρκα,  μετὰ φόβου καὶ τρόμου, ἐν ἁπλότητι τῆς καρδίας ὑμῶν, ὡς τῷ Χριστῷ·Slaves, obey those who are your masters according to the flesh with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your hearts, as to Christ;
6:06μὴ κατʼ ὀφθαλμοδουλείαν ὡς ἀνθρωπάρεσκοι, ἀλλʼ ὡς δοῦλοι τοῦ Χριστοῦ, ποιοῦντες τὸ θέλημα τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐκ ψυχῆς,not by way of eyeservice as men-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart,
6:07μετʼ εὐνοίας δουλεύοντες ὡς τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶ οὐκ ἀνθρώποις·rendering service with good will as to the Lord and not to men;
6:08εἰδότες ὅτι ὃ ἐάν τι ἕκαστος ποιήσῃ ἀγαθόν, τοῦτο κομιεῖται παρὰ τοῦ Κυρίου, εἴτε δοῦλος, εἴτε ἐλεύθερος.knowing that whatever good thing each one does, this he will receive from the Lord whether slave or free.
6:09καὶ οἱ κύριοι τὰ αὐτὰ ποιεῖτε πρὸς αὐτούς, ἀνιέντες τὴν ἀπειλήν· εἰδότες ὅτι καὶ ὑμῶν αὐτῶν ὁ Κύριός ἐστιν ἐν οὐρανοῖς, καὶ προσωποληψία οὐκ ἔστι παρʼ αὐτῷ.and masters do the same things to them, cease threatening, knowing that your and their lord is in heaven and there is no partiality with Him.
Finally, my brothers, be strengthened in the Lord and in His mighty strength.
6:11ἐνδύσασθε τὴν πανοπλίαν τοῦ Θεοῦ, πρὸς τὸ δύνασθαι ὑμᾶς στῆναι πρὸς τὰς μεθοδείας τοῦ διαβόλου· Clothe yourselves in the full armor of God in order that you may be able to stand against the scheming of the devil;
6:12ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἡμῖν ἡ πάλη πρὸς αἷμα καὶ σάρκα, ἀλλὰ πρὸς τὰς ἀρχάς, πρὸς τὰς ἐξουσίας, πρὸς τοὺς κοσμοκράτορας τοῦ σκότους τοῦ αἰῶνος τούτου, πρὸς τὰ πνευματικὰ τῆς πονηρίας ἐν τοῖς ἐπουρανίοις. because our struggle is not against blood and flesh but against authorities against the powers against the world rulers of this dark age, against the spiritual wickedness in the heavenly places.
Therefore, take up the full armor of God so that you may be able to resist in the evil day and having done all to stand.
6:14στῆτε οὖν περιζωσάμενοι τὴν ὀσφὺν ὑμῶν ἐν ἀληθείᾳ, καὶ ἐνδυσάμενοι τὸν θώρακα τῆς δικαιοσύνης, Stand, therefore, having your waist gird about with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
6:15καὶ ὑποδησάμενοι τοὺς πόδας ἐν ἑτοιμασίᾳ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου τῆς εἰρήνης· and having put on your feet the preparation of the gospel of peace;
6:16ἐπὶ πᾶσιν ἀναλαβόντες τὸν θυρεὸν τῆς πίστεως, ἐν ᾧ δυνήσεσθε πάντα τὰ βέλη τοῦ πονηροῦ τὰ πεπυρωμένα σβέσαι. in addition to all, take up the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the evil one’s flaming arrows.
6:17καὶ τὴν περικεφαλαίαν τοῦ σωτηρίου δέξασθε, καὶ τὴν μάχαιραν τοῦ Πνεύματος, ὅ ἐστι ῥῆμα Θεοῦ, And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
6:18διὰ πάσης προσευχῆς καὶ δεήσεως προσευχόμενοι ἐν παντὶ καιρῷ ἐν Πνεύματι, καὶ εἰς αὐτὸ τοῦτο ἀγρυπνοῦντες ἐν πάσῃ προσκαρτερήσει καὶ δεήσει περὶ πάντων τῶν ἁγίων, with all prayer and supplication, praying always in the Spirit, for this very purpose, being watchful in all perseverance and prayer concerning all the holy ones,
6:19καὶ ὑπὲρ ἐμοῦ, ἵνα μοι δοθείη λόγος ἐν ἀνοίξει τοῦ στόματός μου ἐν παρρησίᾳ, γνωρίσαι τὸ μυστήριον τοῦ εὐαγγελίου, and on my behalf, so that that a message may be given to me that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel,
6:20ὑπὲρ οὗ πρεσβεύω ἐν ἁλύσει, ἵνα ἐν αὐτῷ παρʼῥησιάσωμαι, ὡς δεῖ με λαλῆσαι. concerning which I am an ambassador in a chain so that therein I may speak boldly as is necessary for me to speak.
6:21Ἵνα δὲ εἰδῆτε καὶ ὑμεῖς τὰ κατʼ ἐμέ, τί πράσσω, πάντα ὑμῖν γνωρίσει Τυχικὸς ὁ ἀγαπητὸς ἀδελφὸς καὶ πιστὸς διάκονος ἐν Κυρίῳ· But that you also may know my circumstances — what I am doing — Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make everything known to you,
6:22ὃν ἔπεμψα πρὸς ὑμᾶς εἰς αὐτὸ τοῦτο, ἵνα γνῶτε τὰ περὶ ἡμῶν, καὶ παρακαλέσῃ τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν. whom I have sent to you for this very purpose, that you may know our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts.
Peace to the brothers and love with faith from God the father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace to all of those who love our Lord Jesus Christ imperishably.
