What does it mean that the brethren testified of the truth that is in Gaius, even as he walks in the truth?

For I rejoiced greatly, when the brothers came and testified to the truth you hold, just as you walk in the truth. (III John 3)

The elder is not repeating the same thing, that seems clear. What he appears to be saying is that

  1. there is truth in Gaius — he continues to steadfastly believe in Jesus; and
  2. not only is the truth in him, but he also walks out that truth.

Gaius’ commitment, in his mind and heart, to the truth, is also manifest in his walk.

Is this an example of the fruit of the Spirit manifest in a believer’s life?
